1. Who is the coordinator of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and how do I contact the coordinator?

For the 2007 - 2008 school year the IB MYP Coordinator is Christine Silvis. Contact information: 651.379.2605 orchristine.silvis@emid6067.net. You can also find additional information on the teacher space of our school website. (back to top)

2. Where can I find more information about the International Baccalaureate Organization?

www.ibo.org and www.ibmn.org are two websites that offer a great deal of information about IB. (back to top)

3. Is there an application process for admission to the MYP?

At Crosswinds, all students enrolled participate in our MYP. We do not have a separate application process for the program. You would simply follow the application process for admission. (back to top)

4. Do all students participate in the MYP?

The MYP is a program that is designed for all middle-level learners. Some schools have chosen to operate their program as a school within a school. In our opinion this is not best practice. Therefore, at Crosswinds, all students enrolled in our school participate in the MYP. (back to top)

5. What if my child did not attend a Primary Years Programme before attending Crosswinds?

Participation in a Primary Years Programme is not a prerequisite for enrollment in a Middle Years Programme. (back to top)

6. What happens if my child does not complete the entire program?

If your child transfers from a different MYP school, please make sure that they transcripts reflect this as well as their community service completion. If your child transfers in from a "traditional" school they will be recognized for participating in a MYP on their transcript when they leave Crosswinds. They will only be recognized for completing the MYP if they are enrolled in a MYP for year 1 (grade 6) through year 5 (grade 10), passed their year 5 assessment tasks and complete the required amount of community service learning hours. (back to top)

7. Are students expected to enter a Diploma Programme when they leave Crosswinds?

No, students are not expected to enter a DP. If you are interested in a DP for 11th and 12th grade, there are many local options. (back to top)

8. What area schools offer the Diploma Programme and how do we get enrollment information?

Go to the following link (http://www.ibmn.org/Who.htm) to find local schools that offer the DP. To inquire about enrollment you should contact the schools DP Coordinator. (back to top)

9. What is the difference between IB Diploma Program and the Advanced Placement Program?

Go to the following link (a href="http://www.ibmn.org/IB%20-%20AP.htm" target="_blank">http://www.ibmn.org/IB%20-%20AP.htm) to find detailed information on the differences between these two programs. (back to top)

10. Where can I find community service forms and information about hours required?

Follow the Community Service Learning link found on this page. You will find requirements and a downloadable documentation/reflection form. These forms should be turned into the IB Coordinator. (back to top)

11. Why are students required to do community service hours?

It is a requirement from the International Baccalaureate Organization that all MYP students participate in Service to their Community. At Crosswinds, we value this requirement because we believe that students can not truly fulfill our schools mission to become a responsible citizen and an environmental steward without participation in service opportunities. (back to top)

12. What benefits does the MYP have on future planning?

The MYP is designed to give students the tools to understand their needs and abilities as a learner. This program helps students become more responsible for their own learning. The skills built at Crosswinds will help your child with whatever their future plans hold.
