Intersession

What is Intersession?

Intersession programs are offered as an optional learning program during the November, February, and May breaks. Creative hands-on classes complement the school's art, science, and International Baccalaureate focus.

Who teaches Intersession?

Classes are led by Crosswinds teachers, educational assistants, and guest artists from our vibrant Twin Cities community.

How much does it cost?

The Intersession program is supported by the Minnesota Department of Education. The fee for Intersession is $15.00 per session with a $45 family maximum. Scholarships are also available for families who qualify.

How do I register for Intersession?

A registration bulletin is mailed home mid quarter (and is available on this site). Classes are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. Students are able to rank classes based on their interest level, and then are placed according to available space.

How will I know if I got into the program?

If you register by the deadline, your student will be enrolled in the program. A confirmation letter will include your student's class schedule and bussing information. Late registrations will be considered if space is available, but transportation is not guaranteed.

Is transportation available?

Bussing is free during the Intersession program. Bus schedules are mailed home with confirmation letters.

What types of classes are available?

Explore (6-10)
Explore students select from a list of creative 90-minute mini-courses in the areas of math, reading, science, visual, literary and performing arts, and technology. Morning classes have a stronger academic focus to help students gain confidence in basic math, reading, and writing. Smaller class sizes during Intersession create opportunity for success. Afternoon classes focus more on enrichment, activity, and exploration of a variety of disciplines.

Workshops (9-10)
Morning workshops for our 9th/10th grade students offer opportunities to go more in-depth with a variety of topics that support academic learning and our IB focus. Students have increased opportunities to go on field experiences that connect real-world learning and community service. Additionally, Driver's Education is offered in February. 9th/10th students participate in Explore enrichment opportunities in the afternoon.
