Following are links to search engine sites that will help you with homework as well as daily information searches. Each search engine has very helpful instructions linked clearly from its homepage.

Google is an extremely easy search engine to use. Simply type in the subject and up pops a list of sites that match your search. After the web link to the site, there is a brief description of the site. Google also allows you to quickly and easily search the internet for images. An advanced search allows you to return results from a certain domain. You can search only government (.gov) or educational (.edu) websites. Google claims to be searching over 4 billion websites.

Ask is a very good site if you are looking for an authoritative search. The site has increased its scope and now you can search photos, news, products and more. In the Ask for Kids section, students can access a web Dictionary, Thesaurus, Almanac, Clip Art, and subject specific areas (math, science, astronomy, etc.).

Altavista is one more of the metasearch sites. You can search for websites as well as photos and other items. Altavista places their sponsor sites first and you will need to scroll down to get to the search results. The websites that match the search have brief a description following the web address.

Yahooligans is a search site that evovled from the larger Yahoo search site. Yahooligans does not have all the pop-up advertising that the other site has. Yahoolignans has a number of different areas that you can go to for learning and for entertainment. You can watch clips of upcoming movies, you check out jokes, music, and also news. There is also an Ask Earl area that gives the authoritative search.

Dogpile is search site that queries more than 12 of the top search engines. Search results are listed by relevance or search engine. For example, Dogpile may find the top five results from Google, then list the top 10 from Yahoo, and so on. The site is relatively advertisement free and easy to navigate.
