Site Council Mission
The mission of the Site Council is to support the Harambee mission by fostering an environment where all can succeed in life and learning though school, family and community relationships.
Welcome!
Welcome to the Harambee Elementary School Site Council homepage!
The Site Council is a voluntary collaboration of parents, teachers and staff that meets regularly to promote the school’s mission and to discuss issues of mutual concern. The Site Council serves in an advisory role to the school principal who, by law, is responsible for the school’s overall health and well-being. The principal is a regular participant at Site Council meetings but is not a voting member.
The Site Council is composed of up to 16 voting members – approximately eight representing family/community members and eight representing teachers and staff – who reflect the diversity of the Harambee community. The Site Council also is a clearinghouse for many school-wide issues that impact students, parents, teachers and staff.
The Site Council meets at the school about nine times per year, usually on the second Tuesday of each month that school is in session. At a typical meeting, teachers and school district representatives might present informational updates to keep the Site Council up-to-date about new curriculum, new teaching strategies, school-wide issues, changes in school resources and other relevant information.
The Council created three subcommittees in 2006 to address and discuss more specific concerns of the full Council. The Management Committee plans and manages monthly meetings and coordinates presentations and materials. The Issues Committee coordinates and monitors issues coming to the Council, and recommends which will be heard. The Communications Committee coordinates communications between the Site Council and its stakeholders (families, teachers, staff, administration) using multiple venues. Subcommittee members are drawn from the full Council. Additional work groups might be called together for specific time-limited issues.
All parents and staff are welcome to attend! The Site Council encourages parents, staff and other interested parties to visit the Site Council at any of its regular meetings.
Open comment period Time is reserved at the beginning of every Site Council meeting for comments from parents, teachers and other interested parties to address the Site Council on matters of mutual concern. Initial comments should be limited to five minutes. Issues that require more discussion will be added to a future meeting.
Contact the Site Council The Site Council is committed to an open-door policy for all members of the Harambee community. Please remember: this is YOUR school and YOUR Site Council. We want to hear from you!
Feel free to contact any member of the Site Council with your comments, concerns and questions about any matter described above.
