EMID ParentLink System: An Introduction
If you have picked up your phone and heard an automated or recorded message from Crosswinds or Harambee, then you have heard from our ParentLink server. We use ParentLink to send automated messages to parents about attendance and other school wide announcements, as well as teacher recorded messages about assignments or upcoming events. Parents also can log-on to the ParentLink website to access their child's attendance history, and at Crosswinds they can also get current gradebook information and cafeteria balance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my answering machine does not record the entire message?

You can re-play any message sent to your phone by calling the ParentLink server at 1-866-208-5273 or 1-866-208-9465. Follow the prompts to listen to messages sent to your phone number. You can also read text versions of all ParentLink messages by logging on the ParentLink server and clicking on the "Messages" tab.

Do I have a ParentLink Account?
Most parents of EMID students have an account on our ParentLink server. The account is automatically set up with the parent's home phone number; messages sent to the parent are delivered to that phone number only. The ParentLink server will deliver messages to that number anytime between 8am and 9pm.

However, if a student has parents or guardians that live at separate addresses, the additional parent/guardian's account needs to be manually created on the ParentLink server. Please contact your child's school at 651-379-2500 (Harambee) or 651-379-2600 (Crosswinds) if you would like to have an account created for you.

How do I get my account information?
New Account IDs and passwords were mailed home to all EMID families in early April, 2009. Password letters will also be mailed to new families at the start of each school year. Be sure to follow the directions in that letter to set up your account. If you have misplaced that letter, or never received one, please contact your child's school.

Why should I logon to the ParentLink Website?
The only way to customize your account preferences or access your child's attendance history, assignment information, and cafeteria balance is through the website. For example, it is very easy for parents to set up their accounts so that messages are sent to: multiple email addresses (i.e., both mom and dad's work email addresses); a work phone number between the hours of 9am and 5pm on weekdays; or a home phone number between 5pm and 9pm on weeknights.

How do I get my Crosswinds student's grades?
Log on to the ParentLink server, click the Classes Tab, then click "Grades." Each of your student's classes will be listed; click on "Assignments" to see your student's current progress in that class. At a minimum, each teacher will update his or her gradebooks on Wednesday evenings; by Thursday morning, you will see up-to-date information on the ParentLink server.

How do I read the Assignment display?
For each class, the ParentLink server displays every assignment that the teacher has entered into his or her gradebook. Each assignment has the following information listed:
  • Assignment Type (classwork, homework, project, quiz, etc)
  • Assignment Name
  • Date assigned and date due
  • Score (points earned / points possible)
  • Date turned in (the day the teacher entered the info into the gradebook)
How come the Grade Column is mostly blank?
The Crosswinds Grading Scale (1-7) does not display on the ParentLink system; even if it did, most individual assignments wouldn't get a final grade anyway. However, you may see some abbreviations displayed in this column:
  • R = Received, but not yet graded
  • NHI = Not Handed In
  • Omit = student excused from having to do assignment
  • Sick = student was ill on the day assignment was due
My student is in Health / PE, why don't I see one of those classes?
Health and PE are the only classes at Crosswinds that are not run on a block schedule this year; consequently, the computer system does not display these classes accurately. Health and PE teachers will send home paper progress reports. Contact them if you have questions or concerns.

What if I don't have a computer? You can call the ParentLink server at 1-866-208-5273 or 1-866-208-9465 to listen to messages sent to your home (the server will ask you to enter your phone number to listen to messages sent to that number). You can also access additional information by logging on over the phone using the account information that was mailed to you. If you want to customize your account preferences, you can use any computer connected to the Internet (at a library or other location).

If you are a Crosswinds parent, please email Rachel Verdoorn if you have questions or problems with your account. Harambee parents should contact Denise Goodwiler.
