Proper student conduct on the bus is important for bus safety. Bus drivers cannot perform their duties properly and safely driving the bus if their attention is drawn to the students on the bus. The driver has the authority regarding discipline on the bus and the students must realize that they are to follow the directions of the bus driver in order to maintain their bus riding privileges. Each student must share in the responsibility of maintaining safety on the bus. Remember, riding the bus is a privilege, not a right.

School bus drivers, in cooperation with the school district and the bus company, established the rules for a safe and orderly bus ride. At the beginning of the year and periodically throughout the year, these rules will be reviewed and discussed.

Students are expected to be at the pickup location at least five minutes prior to their assigned pickup time. The school bus driver will not wait for students, nor will the driver be sent back to pick up late students that miss the bus.

While waiting for the bus students are expected to:

  • Stay back away from the curb so as not to distract passing motorists or accidentally slip and fall into the street.
  • Wait for directions from the bus driver before crossing the street, then cross ten feet in front of the bus.
  • Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching the bus.
  • Never chase or run beside a moving bus. Such action will result in a loss of bus riding privileges.
  • Take a seat promptly and stay seated until you arrive at school or at your bus stop.
On the school bus:
  • Stay seated at all times.
  • Follow the directions of the driver or Bus Leader respectfully at all times.
  • Keep personal belongings in your lap or backpack. Leave all toys at home.
  • Do not bring any sharp objects on the bus.
  • Windows may only be open half way with the permission of the bus driver. Do not throw anything or put any part of your body out the window.
  • Do not touch emergency equipment, two-way radio, first aide kits, reflectors, or emergency doors. These are for emergencies only! Students should never be in the driver’s area on the bus.
  • Fighting, spitting, teasing, wrestling, throwing objects, or littering will not be tolerated.
  • Respect the personal property of others.
  • Use of profane, abusive or harassing language will not be tolerated.
  • Keep noise down. Screaming or shouting is prohibited.
  • Students are responsible for vandalism and will be responsible to the transportation department.
  • Boom boxes, walkmans, gameboys, Pokemon/trading cards, electronic games, or toys are prohibited on the bus. These items will have to be picked up in the office by the parent/guardian if they are brought to school.
  • Pets or animals of any kind are not allowed on the bus.
  • Eating is not allowed on the bus.
The following bus discipline procedures will be enforced with students who choose not to follow the bus rules.

First Offense:

The bus driver will talk to the student about the bus problem and complete a “bus referral” form, which will be given to the Program Assistant in charge of bus transportation. The Program Assistant will follow up with a student conference, warning the student that bus privileges may be taken away if inappropriate behavior continues on the bus. A report will be sent home to parent/guardian.

Second Offense:

The bus driver will talk to the student about the bus problem and complete a “bus referral “ form, which will be given to the Program Assistant in charge of bus transportation. The Program Assistant will follow up with a student/parent/guardian conference to discuss the problem. Possible loss of bus riding privileges could occur, not exceeding five days.

Third and Succeeding Offenses:

The bus driver will talk to the student about the bus problem and complete a “bus referral “ form, which will be given to the Program Assistant in charge of bus transportation. The Program Assistant will follow up with a student/parent/guardian conference to discuss the problem. Possible loss of bus riding privileges for more than five days could occur. This will be determined by the bus driver, the Program Assistant, the Principal, and discussed at the student/parent/guardian conference.

***Note: In cases of severe behavior, any or all of the above procedures may be imposed upon the student on the first occurrence.

Riding a Different Bus

Students are not permitted to ride a bus other than their assigned bus. In the event of an emergency, please contact the office.
