Community Cultures

Harambee’s Community Cultures curriculum provides an extension of what’s going on in the classroom because the concept of multicultural education is embedded in all areas of our curriculum. The students are involved in hands-on activities with cultural artifacts, art, music, games, and cooking. We have discussions and read multicultural literature that represents not only the students in our school community, but the global community as well. Pam Booker, Community Cultures specialist, teaches to the Minnesota state standards and support teachers in finding resources to support what is being taught in their classrooms. It is also part of her job to provide professional development for staff and teachers at EMID and its member districts in the areas of diversity and equity issues to support the mission of the district and its multicultural focus.
