Curriculum

Harambee uses Investigations, which is published by Scott Foresman and is aligned with Minnesota State Standards, as its current mathematics curriculum. Investigations was designed to help all children understand the fundamental ideas of numbers and arithmetic, geometry, data, measurement, and early algebra. The Investigations curriculum takes a Constructivist approach to learning during which students develop an internal/personal yet concrete understanding of the subject. To facilitate this type of learning, teachers guide students through a series of Investigations that are designed to demonstrate the math content within a real life context. This type of learning is supported by research that shows that students learn better when they are able to make connections to experiences in their world.

Support

A full-time math specialist provides extra support for approximately 40 students from grades 1-5 who are not currently meeting grade-level expectations. An additional 15-20 students receive extra support from the K-1 designated math teacher.
