Welcome to my website! I have worked at this school since we were located in Arlington High School in 1996. I started as a substitute teacher, then taught grades 3-4 for a few years. I transitioned into the media/technology specialist, technology integration specialist, and then went back to the classroom where spent some more time teaching 3-4 grade before I landed myself in the TOSA position. I have now found my way back to teaching this year and I look forward to working with all of our students in my new role as the Community Cultures Specialist! The earlier portion of my days is dedicated to coordinating testing, working with the Title grant, and serving high potential students.

I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Elementary Education from Hamline University in 1992. I obtained my Minnesota K-6 teaching license early in 1993. Early on in my teaching career, I returned to Hamline and completed my Master of Arts in Education. After 14 years in education, I've recently completed all the requirements to obtain my Principal's License.

My husband and I have four children; one at Harambee, one at Central Park Elementary, one at Roseville Area Middle School and one at AFSA. I enjoy running, cooking, scrapbooking, and spending time with my family. Our children are active in a variety of activities, so we're on the go all the time.

Standardized Testing

At Harambee School, students will take a variety of standardized tests. Annually, our 2nd-5th grade students take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) math and reading tests. We administer these tests three times per year, results are available the next day. Kindergarten and 1st grade students take the Primary MAP test in the fall and in the spring. Results of the MAP tests help us predict our MCA-II scores as well as plan for instruction.

3rd-5th grade students take the MCA-II tests annually as required by the state. The MCA-II has reading and math components for all students, 5th grade students also take a science component.

In kindergarten and 2nd grade, students take the Naglieri (NNAT) test. This test is used in St. Paul Public Schools as a qualifier for entrance to a gifted and talented school.

Other tests are administered as required. English Language Learners, Special Education students and other select groups of students will take additional and/or alternative assessments throughout the year.

Intercession Programming

Intercession programming is offered during our November, February and May breaks from school. The number of days varies based on the length of the break. Intercession programming offers both remedial instruction and enrichment classes.

I have worked with our intercession programming ever since we started offering it in February of 1997. Intercessions are a great time for students to meet new teachers and work with students who aren't in their regular classrooms. It's also a good time for kids who need additional instruction time to get that focused time in reading and/or math. If your student doesn't need academic support, intercession is a great time to have an enrichment experience that they wouldn't normally get during the regular school year.

I am usually here during our intercession breaks and I look forward to the opportunities our students will have this year. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions about attending intercession.
